About

People like to believe we are physiologically omnivorous because that's what we've been told... The loose definition of omnivore is an animal that has the ability to eat and survive on both plant and animal matter. While technically by this definition, we could say humans are omnivores. By that definition, it would also mean that almost all animals are omnivores. Almost all animals can survive on plant and animal matter if they needed to...but is it good for their bodies? All one has to do to know we are not omnivores is look up the key characteristics of an animal who is physiologically designed for a meat-based diet, look in the mirror, and notice that we don't share a single trait. We have fingers for peeling with flat nails that would be useless for attacking an animal. We have long intestines to take time to break down fiber of fruits and veggies...true omnivores have short intestines, so meat doesn't rot in the gut and poison the body. We have canines for tearing into the flesh of fruits, but they are nowhere strong enough to tear into the flesh of an animal if we were hunting naturally. We are instinctively repulsed by blood and flesh... Now this is not to say that eating meat has not been an essential aspect to human survival throughout the course of our species' history... we are an exceptionally adaptable species who have evolved dramatically to blend with the conditions of our environment. Times have changed. Our culture has become so disconnected from our food sources that we now only eat meat because we think we need it to live. So instead of it being a rare unusual meal to consume in a survival setting, it became a marketed staple for Western cult-ure. So if an omnivorous diet is not ideal for our wellbeing, what is best for our daily lifestyle? Humans share all characteristics of an animal designed with a frugivorous physiology. This means our bodies operate best off of fruits, vegetables, plants, fungi, nuts, and seeds. Let's dive in deeper...
